God’s Pantry Food Bank offers many different opportunities for those who wish to donate their time to fighting hunger. Last year, more than 17,000 volunteers donated over 53,000 hours of time, directly impacting the Food Bank’s distribution of more than 30 million pounds of food throughout our 50 county service area. Volunteering makes a difference!
Below is a list of our available volunteer opportunities. Please note that all opportunities listed are in Lexington.
To volunteer outside of Fayette County please visit the agency locator page and contact a member agency closest to you to ask about their specific volunteer needs.

Our Food Bank operates four pantries in Fayette County. We need regular volunteers to staff these sessions to assist clients with pantry check-in, gathering food, and assisting clients with food to their transportation. Our pantry locations are at Broadway Christian Church, Central Christian Church, St. Luke United Methodist Church, and on Cambridge Drive in Lexington. Hours and days can vary by location. Learn more here: Fayette County Pantry Program.
We have volunteering opportunities with two of our kids’ programs.
– Kids Cafe: Serve meals, provide homework help, and mentor young school-age children. Operating hours vary by location and season. Find out more about this program here: Kids Cafe
– Backpack Program: Great for groups or organizations who are able to pick up food from our warehouse, pack a variety of items into a bag and distribute to a school location as predetermined by our Food Bank. Find out more about this program here: Backpack program
God’s Pantry Food Bank’s MealConnect program allows restaurants to notify us when they have food they would like to donate. To make this program a success, we need plenty of volunteers to help pick up that food that is donated and deliver it to our agencies. Volunteers will sign up for three-hour on-call shifts, during which time they will be notified by Food Bank staff when a food pick up and delivery in their local area is available. They will pick up the food and deliver that food using best food safety practices and great customer service.
Volunteer must have a valid driver’s license and insurance on their vehicle and must attend a short food safety training course.
