At God’s Pantry Food Bank, our mission to fight hunger across Central and Eastern Kentucky depends on the dedication of our truck drivers. This Truck Driver Appreciation Month, we’re proud to highlight one of our own: Rodney Robertson. For the past two and a half years, Rodney has been delivering more than just food—he’s been delivering hope.
With over 20 years of experience behind the wheel, Rodney brings knowledge and heart to his role. When asked what he enjoys most about the job, his answer is simple: “The people. People are great—the people I work with and the people I deliver to.”
Each day brings new sights and new faces. “There’s a lot of sightseeing,” Rodney says. “And the people are happy to see me, and I’m happy to see them.”
One of his favorite routes is Letcher County in Eastern Kentucky, a place he discovered through his work with the Food Bank. “The people really like me down there,” he shares. “Plus, there’s a lot to see. I didn’t even know it was out there until I started working here.”
Rodney’s work is deeply connected to our mission. He ensures food arrives on time, even during moments of crisis—like when he delivered water to Hazard after the flooding in Hazel Green. His commitment to showing up for communities in need is what defines our drivers.
For Rodney, every delivery is meaningful. “Every day is kind of memorable,” he reflects. “We’re feeding people. It makes me feel good knowing that I’m helping.”
Of course, the job comes with its challenges. Navigating unfamiliar routes, changing terrain, and tight schedules requires skill and focus. “You’ve got to drive for yourself and everybody else on the road,” Rodney explains. “You’ve got to stay on your P’s and Q’s.”
Despite the demands, Rodney shows up with a smile—and often receives one in return. “Even folks who see me regularly thank me. Some even say a prayer.”
This month, and every month, we honor Rodney and all the drivers who keep our mission moving forward. Their hard work, compassion, and commitment make it possible for thousands of Kentuckians to receive the food they need.
Thank you, Rodney, for being a driving force in the fight against hunger.
