How God’s Pantry Food Bank is Responding to the Government Shutdown
Congress was unable to pass legislation to fund the government beyond October 1, resulting in a government shutdown. This has created uncertainty for millions of Americans, including federal workers, contractors, and active-duty military personnel—many of whom will miss paychecks starting mid-October.
At a time when nearly 280,000 Central and Eastern Kentuckians face food insecurity, any missed paycheck can force families to make impossible choices between food, rent, medicine, and other essentials. God’s Pantry Food Bank is here to help.
What’s the impact of the shutdown?
Federal employees, contractors, and military families may begin missing paychecks as early as October 15. If the shutdown continues, the financial strain will deepen, especially for those already living paycheck to paycheck. This could mean more people turning to food assistance for the first time.
How is God’s Pantry Food Bank responding?
We are committed to ensuring that no one in Central and Eastern Kentucky goes hungry during this time. Our network of pantries and meal programs is available to anyone impacted by the shutdown—or anyone facing food insecurity for any reason. We also offer SNAP application assistance and can help connect individuals to other resources.
