The finest food and drinks in Central Kentucky were represented this past weekend at the 35th Annual Taste of the Bluegrass, presented by God’s Pantry Food Bank.  Winners were selected in 10 categories in both a Judges’ Best and a People’s Choice vote.

Judges for this year’s contest included celebrity representatives from Cumulus Broadcasting, iHeart Media, WKYT, WTVQ, WLEX, WDKY and local Lexington print publications.  Most notably, for the 7th year in a row, Louisiana Passion & Catering won for the Best Side as voted by the Judges’ for their crowd favorite, Crawfish & Corn Bisque.  Louisiana Passion & Catering has walked away with the most consecutive wins ever, in the history of Taste of the Bluegrass Judges’ awards.

JW’s Steakhouse at the Marriott Griffin Gate completed a double sweep in both the Judges’ and People’s Choice awards for Best Appetizer and Best Dessert.  Such a feat has never before been accomplished by a food or beverage purveyor at Taste of the Bluegrass, congratulations to JW’s Steakhouse at the Marriott Griffin Gate!

 

People’s Choice Winners:

Best Appetizer – JW’s Steakhouse at the Marriott Griffin Gate for their Bourbon BBQ Bacon Wrapped Shrimp with Green Tomato Relish.  (Also the winner of the same category in the Judge’s Best below).

Best Side – Dad’s Favorite Cheese Spreads & Deli for their Stampin’ Ground Beer Cheese and Bacon Grits.

Best Entrée – Mi Piquena Hacienda and Pork Tacos.

Best Dessert – JW’s Steakhouse at the Marriott Griffin Gate for Kentucky Butter Cake with Bourbon Sauce.  (Also the winner of the same category in the Judge’s best below)

Best Wine – Old 502 Winery – Bourbon Barrel Red (also the winner of the same category in the Judges’ best below).

Best Beer – West Sixth for their Belgian Blonde.

Best Spirit (Non Bourbon) – Mi Pequena Hacienda with their Margarita Hacienda.

Best Non Alcoholic Beverage – John Conti Coffee, Fresh Brewed Peach Iced Tea (also the winner of the same category in the Judges’ best below).

Best Bourbon – Four Roses Bourbon, the Rose-a-Rita.

Best Decorated Booth – Four Roses Bourbon

Best Appetizer – JW’s Steakhouse at the Marriott Griffin Gate for their Bourbon BBQ Bacon Wrapped Shrimp with Green Tomato Relish.

Best Side – Louisiana Passion & Catering for their Crawfish and Corn Bisque.

Best Entrée – Lexington Diner for their Bourbon BBQ Wagyu Slider with French Fried Onions and Ghost Pepper Jack Cheese.

Best Dessert– JW’s Steakhouse at the Marriott Griffin Gate for Kentucky Butter Cake with Bourbon Sauce.

Best Wine – Old 502 Winery – Bourbon Barrel Red.

Best Beer – Country Boy Brewing for their Halfway Home Pale Ale.

Best Spirit (Non Bourbon) – Strategic Brands Marketing and Mojo Shot Blue Lagoon.

Best Non Alcoholic Beverage – John Conti Coffee, Fresh Brewed Peach Iced Tea.

Best Bourbon – Southern Wine & Spirits Coastal Division for the Blade and Bow Bourbon.

 

A record breaking number of tickets were sold to this year’s event with more than 1,300 people attending the 35th annual event on Friday May 15th, which was sponsored for the third year in a row by Columbia Gas of Kentucky.  This year’s event is expected to generate more than $130,000 for the Food Bank. For every $10 given, God’s Pantry Food Bank is able to distribute $100 worth of food. That means more than $1 million worth of groceries will find their way to families in need as a result of the Taste of the Bluegrass.
