During the school year, thousands of children in Central and Eastern Kentucky depend on free or reduced-price breakfasts and lunches to help fulfill their nutritional needs.  In the summer months, these meals are still needed but are in shorter supply.

Although Kentucky has seen a recent increase in meals provided during the summer, we still remain one of the bottom five states providing summer meals to kids.  For every 100 kids receiving a free or reduced-price meal during the school year, only 8 kids are connecting with a summer meal.

God’s Pantry Food Bank aims to close this gap by sponsoring the Summer Food Service Program (a USDA-based child nutrition program) at sites throughout our service area.  We provide meals and snacks at libraries, churches, apartment complexes, community centers and churches by partnering with volunteers at these community-based sites.  Kids ages 18 and under are given meals and snacks free of charge and are invited to participate in fun activities happening at the community site.

Use the partner agency Locator to contact your local hunger relief organization and find out what it is doing to solve hunger in your community.
