Give Food

Donations of food by individuals, groups, and businesses are accepted daily to be distributed back into the community – giving hope to the hungry in Kentucky. See the information below on how to make commercial food or product donations and how donated food is distributed in the community through our Member Agencies.

Commercial Food Donations

Within our 50 central and eastern Kentucky county service area any farmer, processor, distributor, broker, warehouse, trucker, etc. who has useable inventory—raw commodities, produce, ingredients, packaging materials, finished products, and nonfood products such as paper goods, household cleaning products and personal care products—they are willing to donate should contact:

Roger Kirk, God’s Pantry Operations Director, 859-288-5312 or
Peter Paterson, Operations Assistant, 859-288-5313

We will quickly be able to tell you if we can take the offered goods. Donations can be dropped off or we can generally arrange for transport.

The law protects food donors. The federal Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Act of 1996 protects businesses, nonprofit organizations and individuals who donate food in good faith from civil or criminal liability should such donated food later cause harm to a recipient. State of Kentucky Revised Statutes KRS413.248 and KRS413.247 also protect donors from liability.

Tax benefits are available to businesses that donate food. Donations of useable inventory to regional food banks qualify for the generous “cost plus up to 50% of normal profit” tax deduction provided by Section 17(e)(3) of the U.S. IRS Code. Please check with your accountant for specific tax benefits.
